Successful partnership with Scholastic brings Kindergarten Readiness programs to many families in four counties
This spring, four First 5 counties graciously served as hosts in a series of Kindergarten Readiness programs sponsored by Scholastic and First 5 California. The events were held at selected preschools in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Shasta counties.
The purpose of these Kindergarten Readiness sessions was to help parents understand the importance of talking, reading, and singing to their young children, as well as learning about how to best prepare their preschoolers for the kinds of skills and abilities they will need when they get to Kindergarten. Each event produced a packed house of eager parents and children, along with a special appearance from Clifford the Big Red Dog. Following the sessions, parents and children were invited to an on-site Scholastic book fair where they received a free copy of "It's Picnic Day, Potter!" along with discount certificates provided by Scholastic for the purchase of additional children's books.
These events served as a wonderful way to collaborate with our counties -- and most importantly, directly connect with parents and children in our local communities. Everyone played a significant role in the development of these events and wore multiple hats during the actual workshops, including engaging with parents, reading to children, participating in the book fair, and distributing local community resources.
First 5 California proudly recognizes the representatives from Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Shasta counties for being such an integral part of these successful events!
