The FREE Kit for New Parents is packed with the latest information on everything from prenatal care to finding a quality preschool. This award-winning Kit includes: an educational DVD, Advice for New Parents reference book, Puppy and Friends touch-and-feel board book, and much more. Kits are available in English, Spanish, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, and Vietnamese.



Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid health
care program. This public health insurance program pays for a
variety of medical services for children, pregnant women, and other
adults with limited income and resources.

Healthy
Families is low-cost medical insurance for children and teens. It
provides affordable health, dental, and vision coverage to children
who do not have insurance and do not qualify for free Medi-Cal.


WIC is a
health and nutrition program for women, infants, and children. WIC
provides checks for buying healthy supplemental foods from
WIC-authorized vendors, nutrition education, and help finding
healthcare and other community services.

The
CalFresh Program, formerly known as Food Stamps, provides nutrition
assistance to people with low incomes. It can help buy nutritious
foods for a healthier diet.


The 4
Steps for Kids guidelines help
parents determine which car seat or booster seat is best suited to
protect children based on age and size.
California state law requires kids to stay in a booster or car seat until they are 8 years old or 4 feet 9 inches tall. Studies show booster seat use significantly reduces the risk of injury for children 4 to 8 years old compared with seat belt use alone. Learn more about booster seats.

California Poison Control System provides immediate, free, and
expert treatment advice and referral in case of exposure to
poisonous or toxic substances.


The Paid Family Leave
insurance program provides up to six weeks of benefits for parents
to bond with a new child.

The
California Child Care Resource & Referral Network has agencies
in every county in California that provide free information on
choosing child care, referrals to child care centers, and
information on how to pay for child care.
